The Puffins have had fun with pretend snow and shreaded paper. The enjoyed wrapping prersents and even wrapped Mrs Burnage and Miss Goddard!
It was so lovely to see so many parents who were able to come in to listen to the children read this half term. Everyone really enjoyed sharing books with their adults and are already looking forward to the next event in the spring term!
Well done to the pupils for turning up in some fantastic Christmas jumpers. Great to also see some of those without a Christmas jumper making the most of it by adapting their uniform with a Christmas theme!
We have been busy making gift tags and Christmas Tree decorations ready for the Christmas Fayre. They are looking great and we hope you enjoy hanging them up at home! The children enjoyed making Christmas hats today (while having a good old sing-along to some favourite festive tunes) to wear at our Christmas dinner. Rehearsals are underway for the Christingle Service on Friday 20th at 9:30am. We hope to see lots of you there!
Year Six are incredibly proud of their effort and progress with their writing this half term. Based on the book 'Wonder' by RJ Palacio, they wrote an impactful diary entry from the first person perspective of August Pullman (the main character). They have enjoyed reading their diaries out aloud in class so the rest of the class could hear the voice and personality of August reflected in their writing.
Having enjoyed the unit 'Making our Voice Heard' where we looked at expressing ourselves through art, including designing our own climate change posters, Year 6 have been busy exploring the meanings of paintings by famous artists. They have recorded their opinions in their sketch books and have been fully involved in some still life drama to help bring the meanings of the paintings alive. We are now busy learning how to use guidelines to help with the proportions of self-portraits. These will be inspired by the work of Frida Khalo.
Christmas is coming to Puffins
Wrens have been exploring making secondary colours using primary colours to create a number painting.
The Kingfishers have begun the festive activities with some tags that they created in class on Friday- aren't they pretty? This week, we will also be working on clay decorations and seasonal cards :)
Thanks to those that were able to come in to school to join in with our reading cafe. We are so pleased with how eager the children in this year group are to read to an adult and it was wonderful to support that with events like this.
This term we have been learning about how forces interact in the real world. We have tested the speed objects of different mass fall at while learning about gravity. We have learned about air resistance and conducted experiments with different sized parachutes. We have also been designing and conducting our own experiments to see the effect of water resistance and friction on objects.
Wrens have been busy making Christmas tree, snowmen and star decoartions out of salt dough.
Owls and Ospreys have enjoyed getting creative this week. They used their clay art techniques to make a little Christmas tree decoration and designed gift tags for the Christmas fayre.
In Science this week, Year 4 designed instruments.
Our current topic is Sound, in particular this week we focused on exploring pitch.
In Year 1 Wrens have been exploring colour mixing. They learnt that red, yellow and blue are primary colours and if you mix red and yellow it makes orange, yellow and blue together makes green and that red mixed with blue makes purple. They made a colour wheel to show their learning about primary and secondary colours.
EYFS and KS1 watched a wonderful performance by Widdershins Theatre. He re-told the 3 little pigs and Goldilocks and the three bears. The children thoroughly enjoyed it!
We have been learning about 2D shapes including circles, triangles, squares and rectangles.
We used shapes to make pictures before naming and talaking about the shapes we used.
As part of our learning about the Natvitiy story, we found out about the different features of a church. This included stained glass windows and we learned all about how they are made. We then made our own using black paper for the frames and added tissue paper for the 'glass'!
Puffins started the week reading the Stickman story, we then played with boxes and looked at the different sizes and some of us hid inside the boxes. The week finished with stick painting which turned to handpainting. We also had a little disco with bubbles and disco lights.
We did manage to fit in some maths, buliding towers and measuring the height of boxes with bricks.
Woodpeckers have been enjoying their maths lessons. They have been using numberlines and learning how to do column addition this week.
