Year 2 Art
In art, we have been exploring how to create texture using paint and a variety of materials. The children were provided with the primary colours and tasked with mixing them to produce the colours they needed.
Puffins at Forest School
The children in Puffins did some Forest School crafts today. We made boats with egg boxes and flowers.
Penguins lift off!
Penguins have had a great time learning all about space this week. We learned all about the different planets of the solar system and the job of an astronaut. We also learned about different forces including push and pull, and how this relates to space travel (thrust and gravity). We made our own straw rockets and had a great time launching them on the playground!
Penguins Sports Day!
Penguins had a great time at Sports Day showing off all of the skills they have learned in PE this year! Thank you to all the parents and carers for coming and supporting!
Wool Wrapping in Robins Class
In Robins Class we have been learning a technique in art called wool wrapping. We used this technique to create our own sheep.
Fun in the sun
The afternoon Puffins had fun in the water. They played with the spinning turtle. Had lots of fun but got very wet. (sorry for the wet clothes)
Kingfishers' Cushions!
Check out the incredible cushions that Kingfisher class have produced! They have been taught various stitches by Mrs Ferreira and their hard work and determination has really paid off. Aren't they great?!
Multi sport festival
Our class recently visited Westfield School to take part in an exciting Multi-Sports Festival. The pupils had the opportunity to join in with children from other schools and take part in a range of activities, including cricket, athletics, and rounders. Everyone showed great enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the day. They represented our school brilliantly and should be very proud of themselves!
Boom Whacker Beats: Exploring Rhythm in Year 4
In Year 4, students use Boom Whackers to develop their understanding of rhythm, pitch, and teamwork through fun, hands-on musical activities.
Butterflies
Today we released our butterflies. We watched them change from caterpillars to butterflies over the past 3 weeks. It was very exciting watching them fly up into the sky.
Off on an adventure!
Parrots have enjoyed the class bus this week! They have loved pretending to be bus drivers and passengers, taking each other on adventures to the beach, the park and even up a mountain! It has been wonderful to see the children practise their social skills of asking for and paying for a bus ticket. Who knows where we will end up next?
Year 4 Visits Italy! A Journey of Discovery and Fun!
Year 4 had an exciting adventure as we "travelled" to Italy for the day! We started our journey by visiting the airport, complete with passports and boarding passes. Once we "arrived" in Italy, we explored its rich culture and traditions. One of the highlights was tasting delicious Italian foods – we tried juicy olives, creamy mozzarella, and crunchy breadsticks. It was a fun and tasty way to experience a new country without leaving school!
Year Six Writing Stars!
Puffins going on a Bear Hunt
The story this week is We are going on a bear hunt. The children loved the story and could retell it very well. We went on a walk around the playground going under bridges, over crates, through tunnels looking for the bear. He was hiding in the little house.
Puffins had a great time.
Science fun in Woodpeckers
Woodpeckers have enjoyed leaning about friction through their topic on forces. They tested different surfaces and made predictions as to which surface would have the most and least friction. They then took their learning outside and experimented on further surfaces for themselves.
Super Smoothies
Wrens have been designing and making smoothies in their Design and Technology lessons. First they decided on their fruit and made a plan. They then peeled, sliced and diced their fruit before blending it. All the Wrens agreed that the smoothies tasted AMAZING!
Visit to The Store
Recently, our Year 5 and 6 pupils took an exciting trip to a local shop called The Store as part of our sustainability project. Before the visit, the children completed research about the shop and prepared thoughtful questions to ask the owner. During their time there, they learned about how The Store sources products locally, reduces waste, and encourages eco-friendly practices. The pupils interviewed the owner to find out more about how the business operates sustainably and took lots of notes and footage. Back at school, they are now working on creating a video to share what they’ve learned and suggest new ideas for how we can make our own school more environmentally friendly. It was a fantastic learning experience that sparked lots of great ideas!
Art in year 2
Year 2 have been getting creative with their recent art project, making fantastic 3D abstract maps! Using a variety of materials, the children explored shape, colour, and texture to represent imaginative landscapes and places. Their finished pieces are full of creativity and expression, and we are so proud of their hard work and artistic flair.
Year 5 - Science - Life Cycles of Animals
Year 5 have been exploring the fascinating world of animal life cycles. We've been comparing how different classifications of animals – including mammals, birds, amphibians, and insects – grow and change throughout their lives.
As part of our learning, we took a closer look at the life cycle of a chicken. The children were particularly intrigued as we investigated the different parts of a chicken egg and discovered the important role each one plays in helping a chick to grow and develop before it hatches. From the protective shell to the nutrient-rich yolk, the children learned how every part has a specific job.
It’s been a brilliant opportunity for pupils to ask scientific questions, make observations and develop their understanding of reproduction in animals. We’re looking forward to continuing our work next week as we explore life cycles in more detail and even create our own diagrams to show what we've learned.
Year 5 - Computing - BBC Micro:bits
In our computing lessons, Year 5 have been getting hands-on with BBC Micro:Bits – tiny programmable devices that introduce children to the world of coding in a fun and interactive way.
The children have really enjoyed learning how to write simple programs and bring their Micro:Bits to life. So far, we’ve successfully coded them to perform a range of exciting functions, including measuring light levels, counting steps like a pedometer, and even sending messages to one another using radio signals!
This has been a fantastic opportunity for pupils to develop their problem-solving skills, logical thinking, and creativity. The children have shown real enthusiasm and curiosity, and it’s been wonderful to see them becoming confident young coders.
