Parrots have enjoyed the class bus this week! They have loved pretending to be bus drivers and passengers, taking each other on adventures to the beach, the park and even up a mountain! It has been wonderful to see the children practise their social skills of asking for and paying for a bus ticket. Who knows where we will end up next?
Year 4 had an exciting adventure as we "travelled" to Italy for the day! We started our journey by visiting the airport, complete with passports and boarding passes. Once we "arrived" in Italy, we explored its rich culture and traditions. One of the highlights was tasting delicious Italian foods – we tried juicy olives, creamy mozzarella, and crunchy breadsticks. It was a fun and tasty way to experience a new country without leaving school!
The story this week is We are going on a bear hunt. The children loved the story and could retell it very well. We went on a walk around the playground going under bridges, over crates, through tunnels looking for the bear. He was hiding in the little house.
Puffins had a great time.
Woodpeckers have enjoyed leaning about friction through their topic on forces. They tested different surfaces and made predictions as to which surface would have the most and least friction. They then took their learning outside and experimented on further surfaces for themselves.
Wrens have been designing and making smoothies in their Design and Technology lessons. First they decided on their fruit and made a plan. They then peeled, sliced and diced their fruit before blending it. All the Wrens agreed that the smoothies tasted AMAZING!
Recently, our Year 5 and 6 pupils took an exciting trip to a local shop called The Store as part of our sustainability project. Before the visit, the children completed research about the shop and prepared thoughtful questions to ask the owner. During their time there, they learned about how The Store sources products locally, reduces waste, and encourages eco-friendly practices. The pupils interviewed the owner to find out more about how the business operates sustainably and took lots of notes and footage. Back at school, they are now working on creating a video to share what they’ve learned and suggest new ideas for how we can make our own school more environmentally friendly. It was a fantastic learning experience that sparked lots of great ideas!
Year 2 have been getting creative with their recent art project, making fantastic 3D abstract maps! Using a variety of materials, the children explored shape, colour, and texture to represent imaginative landscapes and places. Their finished pieces are full of creativity and expression, and we are so proud of their hard work and artistic flair.
Year 5 have been exploring the fascinating world of animal life cycles. We've been comparing how different classifications of animals – including mammals, birds, amphibians, and insects – grow and change throughout their lives.
As part of our learning, we took a closer look at the life cycle of a chicken. The children were particularly intrigued as we investigated the different parts of a chicken egg and discovered the important role each one plays in helping a chick to grow and develop before it hatches. From the protective shell to the nutrient-rich yolk, the children learned how every part has a specific job.
It’s been a brilliant opportunity for pupils to ask scientific questions, make observations and develop their understanding of reproduction in animals. We’re looking forward to continuing our work next week as we explore life cycles in more detail and even create our own diagrams to show what we've learned.
In our computing lessons, Year 5 have been getting hands-on with BBC Micro:Bits – tiny programmable devices that introduce children to the world of coding in a fun and interactive way.
The children have really enjoyed learning how to write simple programs and bring their Micro:Bits to life. So far, we’ve successfully coded them to perform a range of exciting functions, including measuring light levels, counting steps like a pedometer, and even sending messages to one another using radio signals!
This has been a fantastic opportunity for pupils to develop their problem-solving skills, logical thinking, and creativity. The children have shown real enthusiasm and curiosity, and it’s been wonderful to see them becoming confident young coders.
In art, Year 5 have been exploring the world of architecture as a source of inspiration for their own creative work. Using what they’ve observed, the children have begun creating their own detailed 3D drawings, experimenting with perspective, shape, and form to bring their ideas to life on paper. The results have been fantastic, with some imaginative designs taking shape!
Next, we’ll be moving on to the exciting process of printmaking, where pupils will transform their architectural drawings into unique prints using a variety of techniques. We can’t wait to see how their designs develop into bold, eye-catching artworks.
This week, the children were thrilled to welcome a visit from the local fire service! The firefighters spoke to the classes about fire safety and the important work they do in our community. The highlight of the visit was getting to see the fire engine up close — sirens, hoses, and all! It was an exciting and educational experience for everyone.
Woodpeckers are enjoying their new topic of Ancient Egypt. This week they have been looking at Egyptian art and replicating images of their own. They are very proud of their achievements.
Woodpeckers have enjoyed designing and making their felt 'poison dart' frogs. They had to think about the colour and pattern their frog would have. Now they are complete, they have also evaluated their finished work. In Maths, they are enjoying exploring fractions of amounts.
After a very productive few months preparing for their SATS tests, Year Six finally got to relax and celebrate their hard work and amazing attitude towards their learning with a trip to Bedford Park. We enjoyed some cricket, french cricket, football and basketball but the highlight was undoubtedly the mass games of tag! There was also some very competitive running races - the clear winner being Mr Jackson! By the end of the the day, we were definitely ready for our ice-cream treat!!
In Reception we have been learning all about wild animals. This week we read lots of animal stories and learned about story structure.
We then used all of our knowledge to write our own stories! We wrote them as a group and really enjoyed reading them together when they were finished.
Year 4 took to the streets to investigate noise pollution in our local area. They counted passing vehicles, made tallies, and recorded how loud the traffic was
Our Year 4 pupils decorated biscuits in red, white, and blue to celebrate VE Day – a sweet tribute to a historic day! 🍪
To mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, our school celebrated this important moment in history by inviting all pupils to come dressed in red, white and blue. The day was filled with learning about the significance of VE Day and reflecting on the importance of peace and remembrance. It was a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together and honour this historic occasion.
As part of Eco Week, Woodpeckers were lucky enough to have a visit from Jemma. They learnt about air quality and ways they can help the environment. We also had a fantastic writing cafe where we went outside and used our senses to write poems. A big thank you to all the parents who were able to join us.
